Roster and events

The roster module is for businesses that schedule people by the shift: cafés, restaurants, hotels, cleaning, security and event companies. It is an add-on that a company switches on.

One pool of people

Everyone you can schedule sits in one pool, but each person is recorded as one of a small number of kinds (employee, direct temporary worker, agency worker, atypical worker, self-employed freelancer). The kind decides which rules apply and how the person is paid. It is recorded, never guessed.

The roster board

  1. Set up your worksites, roles and shift templates.
  2. Place people on shifts. Before a shift is saved Employ checks rest periods, weekly hours, night work and overlaps with the person's other shifts, and shows the reason when it refuses.
  3. Publish the week. A worker sees only their own published shifts.

Events

Create an event with its positions and call time, send offers to the people you choose, and see who accepted. Each offer shows the cancellation policy in force before the worker accepts. Workers check in by QR code on the day, and the check-ins are kept as an append-only record.

From hours to pay

Approved hours for employees flow into the payroll run for the period. Agency invoices are recorded and freelancer fees are paid under their engagement; neither is put on a payslip.

A note on the rules

The warnings follow the Workers' Rights Act and the sector remuneration regulations. Where the law is silent, Employ offers a default policy that your company can see, adopt or change, and labels it as your policy, not as the law.
